IT Bridging Program

As an Internationally Educated Professional new to Canada, you know the value of business networking and getting your ‘foot in the door’. As a qualified participant in this new pilot bridging program, you will be matched with a senior industry executive onboard your path to employment. Together, you will develop an individual coaching relationship that is key to your ultimate outcome – attaining employment that integrates previous work experience.

If you meet the essential requirements listed below, there is a sector coach waiting to work with you to tailor your career plan.

  • ·         You must be an internationally educated ICT professional new to Canada (arrived within the last three years);
  • ·         You must hold Permanent Resident status in Canada;
  • ·         You have a post-secondary education;
  • ·         You have IT/ICT background with minimum 2 years of ICT work experience;
  • ·         You must be available full-time for 3 training weeks
  • ·         You have obtained a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) rating of 8 (and up) in all four skill areas (reading, writing, speaking and listening) obtained from a CLB Testing Centre; and
  • ·         You have participated in a job search workshop focused on resume writing, interview skills, etc.

Internationally Educated Professionals accepted into ICTC’s Coaching to Career program will receive:

  • ·         3 weeks of full-time training on employment preparation (including Workplace Culture, Competencies, and Communications)
  • ·         6 months in a personalized coaching relationship with a senior industry executive
  • ·         Extended training and support from ICTC into your first 3 months of employment

ICTC also offers another bridging program for IT professionals, the Integrated Work Experience Strategy (IWES).

 

The Integrated Work Experience Strategy (IWES) is a pilot bridging program for Internationally Educated ICT professionals looking to find work in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector. Targeting unemployed or underemployed internationally educated ICT professionals, the 4 week training program plus guided support to workplace practicum opportunity fills a gap by addressing employment barriers for highly skilled ICT IEPs, helping ICT IEPs create a pathway to meaningful employment in the ICT industry.

 

IWES participants go through five service dimensions and then successfully move into creating and developing pathways to employment that may include a work practicum. In addition, the Program receives support, guidance and potential resources from a local Advisory Committee.

To be accepted into the IWES program, candidates must meet the minimum requirements identified below:

  • ·         Permanent resident in Canada
  • ·         IT/ICT background and experience
  • ·         Looking for work in IT/ICT field
  • ·         Live in or close to the city where IWES is being delivered
  • ·         Available full-time for 4 training weeks (and for a minimum 3 month practicum afterward)
  • ·         Immigrated permanently to Canada within the last 3 years
  • ·         Eligible to work in Canada
  • ·         Post-secondary education
  • ·         Strong command of English Language (Speaking, Reading, Writing, Listening)
  • ·         Canadian Language Benchmark 7-8 required in each category of the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA)*
  • ·         Have taken courses/workshops in at least one of the following: Job Search, Resumé Writing, Interview Skills or other related topics
